The Best New Year's Eve Drink
I don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions. If any of you have seen my video, Better Me, you’ll know why. However, I do believe in going out with a bang! New Year's Eve is an important holiday. It’s a time to remember the good, the bad, and the embarrassing. It's a time to celebrate all the stuff from 2015 and then wrap a bow around it, kick it out the door and say “See ya!"
2015 was the year of the Cosmo. The Music Capitol of the World revolves around alcohol - a lot of alcohol - so being the Austin Musician I am, I performed in a lot of bars. The crowd, big or small, always had my mom’s smiling face with a refreshing and delicious cosmopolitan in her hand. She ordered that drink everywhere! So, in honor of me voting my mom best fan on the year, I dedicate this blog to her!
Tools for the job
A martini glass. I prefer to drink from a stemless wine glass, but Mom does not approve. Since this is her recipe we will follow her rules.
A Cocktail Shaker. If you have your own place and you don’t have a cocktail shaker, stop reading this blog and go get one right now! Gone are your days on Fireball shots, Malibu rum, and Jager bombs. You’re an adult now! Get classy and get a shaker.
A shot glass. This is not for shots, it’s for measuring. 1 Shot = 1.5 ounces
- 1 & 1/2 ounce vodka. (This is where opinions may vary. Being an Austin original, I see only two choices: Tito’s or Deep Eddy. I prefer Tito’s. I find it to be much smoother, but Mama prefers Deep Eddy, so the choice is yours.)
- 1/2 ounce lime juice
- 1 ounce cranberry juice
- 1/2 ounce Cointreau (Cosmo can also be made with Triple Sec, but treat yoself and use the good stuff;)
Add all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker. Fill it with ice and shake, shake, shake! Get down with your bad self, add some personal flare! Then strain it into your cocktail glass and garnish with orange zest.
And wahla! Put on this Spotify playlist I curated just for you and relish in your victory! You have created a truly delicious cocktail. Make them for all your guests and party till the ball drops! Mom and I will be cheers-ing to you at 12:00am sharp!
